Defense and procurement terms

SAM: System for Award Management (SAM.gov), the U.S. government website where businesses register to do business with federal agencies.
UEI: Unique Entity ID, the 12-character identifier SAM.gov assigns to each registered entity.
CAGE / NCAGE: Commercial and Government Entity code, a five-character code identifying a supplier facility. NCAGE is the NATO equivalent.
DUNS: A nine-digit Dun & Bradstreet business number. The federal government replaced it with the UEI in April 2022.
NAICS: North American Industry Classification System codes, which classify a business by industry.
RFI / RFQ: Request for Information, an early capability inquiry; Request for Quotation, a pricing request against defined requirements.
DoD: U.S. Department of Defense.
NEC: National Electrical Code (NFPA 70). Its hazardous-location articles define the Class, Division, and Zone system.
